Away we go!
Remember back in 2001 or 2002 I had my very own website.... kieranlavin.com? It was there, I developed and tinkered with it here and there in my spare time but I kind of stopped after a while. Life got in the way and I lost interest. It was also time consuming to write HTML code and it started getting more and more advanced to the point that I was constantly looking things up in reference books as well as googling the solution to how I wanted things to appear. It got frustrating.
Separately, friends were giving me free space on their servers hosting my site and eventually that went away. I really don't remember the specifics but I think it was related to space becoming too costly and them no longer having room to keep my site as small as it was. I eventually moved things over to another friend who also set me up with a photo gallery and that was even more valuable than the website because that was stuff I cared about the most; sharing pictures and videos and memories. He kept it up for a while until robo hackers kept attacking his servers and he too eventually took my pictures and site offline.
I didn't care about it too much until recently I found www.wix.com and decided to give it a shot. It's incredibly easy and requires no HTML knowledge and actually has capacities beyond what I've had the time to play with. I'll be changing and tweaking the site in the coming weeks but it is at least up in it's infancy.
If you have any suggestions or feedback, I'd certainly welcome it. I do know that the site doesn't look GREAT on a mobile but Wix does have an editor to manage what you see on the mobile site.... I just haven't gotten around to that yet.
And.... for anyone curious or interested, I have "reserved" my kieranlavin.com domain for years through www.joker.com and I think it's about $12 or $15 PER YEAR. Separate from that, as many of you know, I have my e-mail and that I have set up through Office365 which most are paying for already or will be soon as Microsoft tries to steer everyone into that subscription-based model. If you wanted a website like this one, there are many options out there (I actually found Wix through Office365). There were several options but I don't recall seeing anything that was more than $12/month on an annual basis. And that was for a business site if you wanted to set up an online store; yes, you can even do that yourself!
